Year 5 Camp Writing

                         Spencer Park camp
On the 2nd of May to the 4th of May the year 5's in Room 18 and 20 went to Spencer Park beach camp. My highlight from camp was having pudding it was delicious. My dislike from camp was leaving on Friday. Something that I found challenging was doing the level 2 in Adrenalin Forest. Here are some poems from camp they are called Remember When and Camp Challenge. I hope you enjoy reading them :D

Remember When

Remember When....We went to the beach so that we could learn about the sand dunes.

Remember When… I ate a huhu grub. I remember chewing while it wiggled in my mouth.

That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

Remember When...We were doing orienteering I was kind of good although I didn’t have a map.

Remember When...We had a lollipop scavenger hunt when we got back from orientering, I got a pink one.

That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

Remember When… we did Adrenalin Forest I was going great UNTIL I got to a part with metal v’s and as you get to it, it shakes like crazy and feels like you’re going to fall off the rope.

Do you Remember When… We had 3rds of pudding because it was french vanilla not any old vanilla and it had jelly - YUM.

That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

And here is my Camp challenge

I heard

The sound of the pulleys zooming down the zip line, making a loud crackling sound.

I heard
My carbines clicking as I clicked them on and off the ropes so I could move onto the next stage.

I saw
The ground FAR down underneath my feet as I held onto the tree tight.

I felt
The rope slipping through my hands as well as the rope wobbling under my feet.

I felt
My harness holding me tightly as I continued walking along the VERY thin rope.

I wondered
When it would be over, so I could eat and stop shaking from the cold and from the fright of being up so high.

I wondered
If I could finish level 2 without having a tear on my cheek from the fright I had got.

Maths: Multiplication Videos

This term our class has been doing more Problem Solving. We were learning how to solve multiplication problems by using different strategies.

On Thursday we used an app on the iPad called Explain Everything. This app is an interactive whiteboard that allows us to collaborate, write, record and share our maths thinking.

My maths mate and I decided to share how we solved the following multiplication problem. We used the strategies of Repeated Addition and Place value.

We hope you enjoy our maths tutorial.

Please comment below if you learnt something new from our video.

Storybird Poetry Anthology

This term Jackson’s Studio has been writing lots of different poems. Over the last week we have been publishing our poems on a website called Story bird. On Story bird we turned our poems into a book called Poetry Anthology, because an anthology is a collection of poems.

Here is my book which my haiku, diamante, cinquain, acrostic, my James K Baxter inspired poem and two sense poems. Can you guess which poem is which?

I hope you enjoyed reading my poems. What one was your favourite?

Chapter Chat - There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom

This term we have been part of Chapter Chat, a twitter based book chat. We have read a book called ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ which is about a boy called Bradley who no one likes. He sat in the last seat, last row at the back of the class with no mates. Until a boy called Jeff moved to the school and sat next to Bradley. After a few weeks a counsellor came, her name was Carla and she helped Bradley make friends and do his homework.

Every Friday we went on Twitter with other schools in New Zealand that are also part of Chapter Chat. When we are on Twitter we answered questions in small groups about what we had read in the last week. Each week we also had to complete at least one quality Chapter Chat activity to share on Twitter.

This is one of my activities where I drew a picture of Colleen in her birthday dress. It took me at least 35 minutes to finish it.

This is my second activity where I had do research about elephants. It took a while I had to work for q couple of hours on this. I found some cool facts about elephants!

This is my third activity where I needed to make an invitation to Colleen's birthday party I had to work hard to make it look how it looks now. My favourite part of the invitation would be the background with the zebra and pink stripes.

Here is my fourth activity where I had to make a stop bulling poster. On it is a boy that has kicked a girl and has said "Cry me a river build a bridge and get over it " and so in other words he was bullying the poor girl.

My favourite activity would be my drawing of Colleen in her birthday dress. Because I love to draw, do art and I love to design dresses so it was perfect for me.

What one was your favourite?

THANKS ALYSSA!

Haiku Poem

In Jackson's Studio, as part of our poetry unit for writing we have been learning how to write a haiku poem. A haiku poem is a popular Japanese poem that traditionally has three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.

We took our notebooks into the playground and brainstormed words associated with an object. I chose yellow monkey bars because a lot of things happen to the bars and they have many things to explain about it.

Next we came inside and composed our haiku poem using a website.

Here is mine, I hope you enjoy it.
