Powtoon
Last term (Term 3) we were reading a book called...
Twist of Gold
After we read the book we went onto a website called PowToon.
"Twist of Gold".
In this video you will find some facts about the book along with a plot summery. You will have to read fast in some parts and slow in others but remember you can pause it. π I hope you enjoyπ
This took me about a week to make so I hope that it was good.
So now I have some questions for you.
1. Did you enjoy this clip
2. If you had to make one what would you do the same and what would you do differently
The next question is the most important question of all.
3. Would you read this book?
πComment down bellow your answersπ

Passion Project Badges
π
Badges π
This year I am a year 5 which is a Legend. In the Legends area you get to earn badges by doing Passion Projects. I have earned 4 badges this year. The first time I got some badges I got two because I had a certain amount to get them. So I got my bronze and my technology. I will tell you more soon. So to get a certain area you have to do 3 tasks from that area. To get your bronze you need to do 5 tasks but from any area, To get your silver it's the same but you have to do ten tasks you basically just do 5 more tasks & best of all to get your gold you need to do 15 same again any area and do 5 more. So I have my technology, Arts, bronze and silver. I will show you some photos.
This is my bronze badge.

Here is my silver badge
So here are 3 out of my 4 badges I also have my arts but I don't have a photo of it sorry. Anyway my arts is like my technology but instead of saying technology it says the arts.

Music festival
Music festival
This year is the 2018 music festival. Seeing as I'm a year 5 I can audition for special choir. I auditioned and I got in.
I am not the only one that got in though, Leah, Lucy, Caitlin & Zach got in too. So almost every Saturday I have to go to Avonhead school to practise. It goes for 2 hours - 1 - 3pm . On the 23rd I had a whole day of singing.
It's cool because when you are in the Legends choir you get an outfit. I got a really formal black skirt and a white top that says Hoon Hay. Once we got our spots I had to sit next to a girl called Adele. Adele and I are friends now which is good because we are sitting next to each other. My school has to preform only once on the 24th of October but I'm in the special (representative) choir so I do 3 nights 24, 25 & the 26th. It goes from 7:00 to 9:15pm. My favourite song is Anthem. Because I'm in junior rep choir I got to prepare 3 songs that we sing ( I didn't pick the songs). The songs that we (junior rep choir) did were Pin pin DE Sara pin, Orinoco flow & A million dreams. My favourite song out of those 3 would have to be a million dreams. Not only do I like the song but I also the effects that go with the song. It's almost like stars going around the arena. On the last night I had to stay a little bit longer. I had to stay 10 mins longer because we had our prize giving but the audience didn't see it neither did the school choirs, along with senior rep choir. Sadly I didn't get an award but anyway I still got a participation award. Along with some lollies from the staff. I really enjoyed doing the music festival. I still would of even if I wasn't in special choir but because I am in it I reckon that I enjoyed it better then I would have. Sorry I don't have any photos but I hope that you have enjoyed reading this.

Scratch
Scratch
Hi, this year we have been working on coding projects on a website called Scratch. This goes towards your technology badge which I will tell you about later. I have done 7 & a half projects. I will tell you what they are one by one and it will have the project with it.
Here is the first 1 I did it is called Rock Band.
Hi, this year we have been working on coding projects on a website called Scratch. This goes towards your technology badge which I will tell you about later. I have done 7 & a half projects. I will tell you what they are one by one and it will have the project with it.
Here is the first 1 I did it is called Rock Band.
What to do:
- Click the green flag to make the guitar play.
- Then just click all the other instruments and the singer and they will play their sound.
- Click the green flag to make the guitar play.
- Then just click all the other instruments and the singer and they will play their sound.
- It's really cool have a try.
Here is the second one it's called Lost in Space.
All you have to do for this one is click the green flag and if you want to see it click it again, click the green flag and continue till you are done.
Here is the third one it's called Ghostbusters
What you will need to do is click the green arrow then you have 10 seconds to click as many of the things as you can. It's actually really fun. See how high you can score.
Here is the 4th one it's called Chat Bot.
What you will need to do is click the flag.
After that you then need to click the Alien and just type in your answers. They are mainly yes or no answers.
Then press enter or click the tick.
The 5th project is called Paint Box.
First click the flag now there is not anything you have to do in order for this but I will tell you what you can do and how to do it.
Changing colour - choose what colour you want (red, blue, green, black and yellow only) then all you have to do is click the box with the colour you want.
If you look closely you can see a box saying width with a little box in it and a scale thing. To make your pencil width bigger or smaller drag it along to get the perfect size for you.
To delete everything press the X in the red circle
On the right side of the delete button there is a rubber all you have to do is click it and same as the pencil to make it bigger drag the scale.
Here it is - see what picture you can draw.
Here is the 6th one I named it Boat Race.
Here's what you'll need to do:
Click the green flag
Once you've clicked the green flag the boat will start moving towards your cursor.
On the top left there is a timer.
You need to get to the yellow island with out touching the wood (Brown lines).
Once you get there the backdrop will change which means you are on level 2.
On level 2 there will be green things try staying away as they will slow you down.
Once you finish that level it's the end of it.
It will change backdrops again but it should keep it a surprise.
Now once I have completed my 6th project which is the one above. I get to make my own and once I've done that I get my technology badge which I have along with my bronze badge. My one is called pick the right life path. What you have to do is try and make it until the end. It's kinda like chat bot but anyway here it is.
All you have do is click the green flag then the girl then reply.
Here is my 7th one it is called Memory.
Can you bet my high score of 15?
What you will need to do is click the green flag and the background will flash then the ballerina will change into a different pose and if you see the different dresses each have a drum. Watch what colours the ballet dancers's dress is wearing and click the right drum. On top right corner you have your score then my high score. If you pass my high score it will ask you your name.
I hope that you have enjoyed playing my scratch games. If you would like to have a try coding your own game go to https://scratch.mit.edu/ ( Copy and paste in your search bar ).
Thanks

Makey Makey
Makey Makey
This term we did a thing called Makey Makey. What you have to do is connect the cords into the Makey Makey then you have to find things to connect the cords too and then when you tap the object it plays the Makey Makey piano. After you have done that one you disconnect the objects and draw on a piece of paper with a pencil up arrow, right arrow, down arrow, left arrow and space. Then you connect the right arrow to the right arrow the left to the left and so on. The way you know what is the right one they have arrows on the Makey Makey pointing the way it goes and the space is a circle that says space. Once you have connected them you go onto Makey Makey Pacman. After that you don't have to connect anything again you just leave it and you get to go onto Makey Makey Super Mario. Toby and I only got up to Super Mario. Also we had to do it with our talking buddies. Here are some photos.
Here is me setting it up (At this time Toby was needed)
Here is me playing the piano
Have you ever done a Makey Makey before? If you have haven't, it is amazing and fun.

Production
Production
This term we have been practising our dance for our production. Our theme is Egypt. We had to make our outfits, here is a picture of me in my outfit. My favourite part was definitely making the outfit, I don't know exactly why but I just loved making it. We had 3 night performances and 1 day show. The first show we did was the day show it was on Tuesday the 11th of September, we also had a night show. The shows went on for 3 nights the 11th, 12th & the 13th then we had 1 on the 14th but it was just for the school. It was funny because at the end of it the curtain fell down. Also the main theme for it all is around the world. There were 2 aliens kids and an alien mum. The kids get bored of Mars so they wanted to run away and explore and they did so but their mum was not happy about it all so she called Dr. Who and his assistant to help. They go all over the world and so it's called "The Journey". Each class got a theme and as you know ours is Egypt and they have to make a dance or like a little skit about it pretty much and when I saw it on Friday it was amazing. I knew everyone had put their all into it, especially the teachers.
Do you like my outfit?
What I had to do was: Find a black dress, paint the plate, fit the belt & hand bracelet things.
I was a pharaoh.
Here are some photos of us in action

Here is the class photo.

Here are the mummies wrapped up in their bandages.

This the king and his cats.

My favourite part is around the end when we all have to pose at different times. My least favourite part is the start when I have to sit on my knees as it hurts my feet. But my absolute least favourite part is the end when it's over because I just wanted to keep doing it :(
But anyway I have some questions of you.
If you went what night did you go?
If you saw it what was your favourite part?
What caught your attention?

Remember When
Remember When....We went to the beach so that we could learn about the sand dunes.
Remember When… I ate a huhu grub. I remember chewing while it wiggled in my mouth.
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.
Remember When...We were doing orienteering I was kind of good although I didn’t have a map.
Remember When...We had a lollipop scavenger hunt when we got back from orientering, I got a pink one.
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.
Remember When… we did Adrenalin Forest I was going great UNTIL I got to a part with metal v’s and as you get to it, it shakes like crazy and feels like you’re going to fall off the rope.
Do you Remember When… We had 3rds of pudding because it was french vanilla not any old vanilla and it had jelly - YUM.

And here is my Camp challenge
I heard
The sound of the pulleys zooming down the zip line, making a loud crackling sound.
I heard
My carbines clicking as I clicked them on and off the ropes so I could move onto the next stage.
I saw
The ground FAR down underneath my feet as I held onto the tree tight.
I felt
The rope slipping through my hands as well as the rope wobbling under my feet.
I felt
My harness holding me tightly as I continued walking along the VERY thin rope.
I wondered
When it would be over, so I could eat and stop shaking from the cold and from the fright of being up so high.
I wondered
If I could finish level 2 without having a tear on my cheek from the fright I had got.

Maths: Multiplication Videos
This term our class has been doing more Problem Solving. We were learning how to solve multiplication problems by using different strategies.
On Thursday we used an app on the iPad called Explain Everything. This app is an interactive whiteboard that allows us to collaborate, write, record and share our maths thinking.
My maths mate and I decided to share how we solved the following multiplication problem. We used the strategies of Repeated Addition and Place value.
We hope you enjoy our maths tutorial.
Please comment below if you learnt something new from our video.

Storybird Poetry Anthology
This term Jackson’s Studio has been writing lots of different poems. Over the last week we have been publishing our poems on a website called Story bird. On Story bird we turned our poems into a book called Poetry Anthology, because an anthology is a collection of poems.
Here is my book which my haiku, diamante, cinquain, acrostic, my James K Baxter inspired poem and two sense poems. Can you guess which poem is which?
I hope you enjoyed reading my poems. What one was your favourite?

Chapter Chat - There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom
This term we have been part of Chapter Chat, a twitter based book chat. We have read a book called ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ which is about a boy called Bradley who no one likes. He sat in the last seat, last row at the back of the class with no mates. Until a boy called Jeff moved to the school and sat next to Bradley. After a few weeks a counsellor came, her name was Carla and she helped Bradley make friends and do his homework.
Every Friday we went on Twitter with other schools in New Zealand that are also part of Chapter Chat. When we are on Twitter we answered questions in small groups about what we had read in the last week. Each week we also had to complete at least one quality Chapter Chat activity to share on Twitter.
This is one of my activities where I drew a picture of Colleen in her birthday dress. It took me at least 35 minutes to finish it.
Here is my fourth activity where I had to make a stop bulling poster. On it is a boy that has kicked a girl and has said "Cry me a river build a bridge and get over it " and so in other words he was bullying the poor girl.

This is my third activity where I needed to make an invitation to Colleen's birthday party I had to work hard to make it look how it looks now. My favourite part of the invitation would be the background with the zebra and pink stripes.
Here is my fourth activity where I had to make a stop bulling poster. On it is a boy that has kicked a girl and has said "Cry me a river build a bridge and get over it " and so in other words he was bullying the poor girl.
My favourite activity would be my drawing of Colleen in her birthday dress. Because I love to draw, do art and I love to design dresses so it was perfect for me.

Haiku Poem
In Jackson's Studio, as part of our poetry unit for writing we have been learning how to write a haiku poem. A haiku poem is a popular Japanese poem that traditionally has three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.
We took our notebooks into the playground and brainstormed words associated with an object. I chose yellow monkey bars because a lot of things happen to the bars and they have many things to explain about it.
Next we came inside and composed our haiku poem using a website.
Here is mine, I hope you enjoy it.
